My name is Lina Kim, I've been a general dentist in private practice for almost 20 years from Seattle, WA and am inspired to evolve into a social entrepreneur, giving back to the community. I also am a dental provider for Seattle Children's Odessa brown clinic. To be a practice owner means you have to have leadership skills and build resiliency. I didn't learn these skills in college or dental school, these are life skills I learned in my 30's-40's and am still learning on a daily basis. My passion for dentistry came when I took dental assisting classes at my high school and was trained to be a dental assistant.
Dentistry is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to create confidence and boost self esteem, get people out of pain so they can go about their daily lives. Everyday I interact with my patients from 1 years old to 90 and I absolutely love our patient/dentist relationship that has developed over the years. I love helping my patients be proactive with their oral health and helping them understand the importance of how oral health is connected to systemic health. My staff and their energy keep me going throughout the day and teamwork within our office plays an integral part in our patient experience. I emphasize physical exercise to my work family because dentistry as a profession can be very stressful physically and mentally. Since Covid-19, I've spent one on one time with my staff members taking workout classes or doing something active outdoors.
What defines success is giving back at every stage of life. Whether it be mentoring pre-dental students, volunteering at homeless shelters or low income nursing facilities, to delivering nutrition and hygiene to schools, I feel very fortunate dentistry has created many paths to make this possible and it fulfills me in every way.
